To Be Right or Light?- Immersive Experience -
Ever danced at clubs and lost yourself? They say nowadays people get lost without dancing, but in interaction with often silent art….

Light delivered by Tate
A couple of months ago, I had a chance to visit an insightful and unique exhibition called "Light (Works from the Tate Collection)".
I was drawn to the show mostly because they've got Turner, who is known as "the painter of light", my favorite, but it was surely
more than Turner's romanticism that filled the air. The work below is by John Brett, whose work was featured as a flagship product on
exhibition pamphlets , and I bought a print so as to prove that it served its role of moneymaker. I put it on the canvas curtain
of our family's bookshelf, so the books are now on "sail" now ! The painter's father was the captain of a battleship, and Brett himself
was an amateur astronomer, and he painted this so-called "angel's ladder" based on the meticulous observation during the navigation.
The level of detail in this art to express and explore beauty of nature is remarkable, which is reminiscent of the Creator’s work.
So just like the exhibition, I'm burrowing the artwork from Tate, below! Fortunately enough, we can all enjoy making your own art exhibition on your web page by embedding the works from Tate!
Another art piece I liked is from Millais. (Tate's is not very clear, so I'm posting my photo. Too bad I didn't bother to stand in front to take a better picture, though!)

Sir John Everett Millais, Dew-Drenched Furze (1889–90)
What made the gallery stand out, though, are not necessarily their textbook classic artworks, but the modern arts brought to the place to examine what light is to us people all about.
There are three pieces that particularly drew my attention. First, Morceau Accrochant from Pae White,
which, to me, looked like flying vitamins translated into colors so as to form light. (For precise information, read summary by Tate.) Now what is cool about the internet age is you can dig to find more about
what you've found offline. You can enjoy her works at gallery pages such as 1301PE and Kaufmann Repetto. I like her neon installation in pastel colors. I would love to see them in person !

Sir John Everett Millais, Dew-Drenched Furze (1889–90)
Second, an installation art from James Turrell, whose idea was once advertised worldwide by the successful rapper who was a huge fan of his works; James Turrell: 'More people have heard of me through Drake than anything else' (Guardian, (2015) Last retrieved Nov 2023) Good that it didn't end up in ugly copyright infringement lawsuits, and although I don't listen to his music, what I can say about him is that he must be a happy guy being honest about what he likes and enjoys, as proven in his appearance in Backstreet Boys' concert in 2022 to sing "I Want It That Way" together with BSB and their audience. He doesn't act like he is too cool to like boyband music, you know? Anyhow, the same thing could be said about Turrell, whose head must be packed with exciting ideas, hopes, and visions, which makes this man who has hit 80 look so young and vibrant. As highly scientific as his art may appear to be, he mentions his works are not just for elites and wants to involve wider public.
The left thumbnail pic is what they had in the exhibition (Raemar, Blue). It's a nice interview video in 8 min with philosophical touch. The next one introduces Turrrell's "House of Light"(since 2000) in Japan. I've been to the area several times, but never known its existence. It looks exotic (a trip to another dimension?) even to the Japanese, but surely it may not be for tourists who are busy hopping from place to place, with no luxurious time to spare under the charming sun !

Just because I've recently been reading a beginner's guide to philosophy a bit, what he, (not only he, but his fellow modern artists as well) has been tackling reminds me of Immanuel Kant's "Copernican Revolution" and Heidegger's "Being in the World". As summarized by Bing AI, Kant's Copernican Revolution "is a shift from a view of knowledge as being objective and independent of the mind to view of knowledge as being subjective and dependent on the mind." This matches with what he is discussing how we create reality through our perception, which may not necessarily be an accurate representation of the physical world. I continue to let Bing AI explain the latter, as it appears to be a better student than me: "Heidegger's philosophy of "Being-in-the-world" is a central concept in his existentialist philosophy... He believed that human beings are not just objects in the world, but are "thrown" into the world and must make sense of it through their own experiences and interactions with it .(comment: immersive experience! And what Turrell means by "primal relationship" in the first video) ...(human being ) is aware of its own existence and has the ability to reflect on its own experiences . "
The AI also gifted me another great source of wisdom by referring to an article from Eternalised, a hub for life meaning seekers. The articles and the video are meant to be made full use of for you to live your life, not for the sake of academic knowledge, thus fairly easy to read for those who are not familiar with the jargon. Here is a sample; Dasein and Being-in-the-world - Heidegger - Eternalised.(Last retrieved Nov 2023)
For more academic stuff for advanced people, here's what a student wrote on art in the light of philosophy; Megan Friel."SUBLIMITY IN THE ART OF THE LIGHT AND SPACE MOVEMENT " , Originally published in Explorations: The UC Davis Undergraduate Research Journal, Vol. 15 (2013).
Well again, I am blessed with so many good sources of inspiration and intentions just because I cared to build something about Gately on the internet... I am very grateful!
Lastly, "Stardust particle" by a social and environmental activist, Olafur Eliasson. The exhibition was full of gems, but I probably liked this art of his the most. Video recording was not allowed, so I could only take photos, one of which is this page's background image. The object was rotating near the ceiling, and it was quite impressive to experience how this installation can define space and time around it; it makes time flow slower and gently, with ever expanding space. I wondered what it would be like to spend more time in this room quietly. How about a café within this galaxy? Would it allow us to relax and spend more quality time with a cup of tea, making you feel like you are part of the solar system, twinkling as a star? My reaction may not be far off from the artist's intention, as I later found out that he put his art in the context of social inclusion. (source; summary by Tate)

When I was writing this, Zen Radio was playing this curious cosmic music as if it was attracted to Eliasson's work! To me, it sounds like stars communicating with each other, having fun traveling through layers of solar winds with great freedom and abandon, to a degree beyond the imagination of earthlings. |

That's it! I would love to visit exhibitions of this kind more !

Light: dance with me in the universe !!
Disney World can be created in your town
On the same day, I had a chance to visit Disney Animation: Immersive Experience taking place near the museum which hosted the aforementioned exhibition. I'll let the guy below show you what it is like, but I need to add that what we had in Japan is a much smaller version of the ones in the U.S.; we only had the movie reflected on the shiny floors where people were kept out of, and 180 degree view, not 360, without fun tricks like bubbles, to be encapsulated in the Disney world. So, when I was too lazy to battle for a better spot to sit in front of the screen and had to watch from a distance, the magical effect was disappointingly less.

Did he say he enjoyed Disney's way more than Van Gogh's? Well, my first immersive experience was Van Gogh's, which again was a mini version, but the bigger one will finally arrive in Japan next year! So I'm definitely going. I may create a post about it, since I loved the one I've gone to. Have you visited ? If not, you should ! Van Gogh is really conquering the world now...quite on par with Disney' s magic, you say? .Van Gogh: The Immersive Experience |

Honestly, with nearly half the price of Disneyland ticket, I'd rather save money to go to the theme park; the rides are more real after all as far as amusement goes, but I don't regret going (I had a means to get a discount anyway). Video recording was allowed, but my shaky phone wouldn't do, so I only took several photos. Here is one I've taken below. I especially enjoyed the exquisite landscape from Pocahontas, sparkling snowflakes from Frozen, and such.

I feel obligated to post something about Disney because we all know Steo was a Disney freak, so... Next, let's find something immersive about Boyzone !
Common goal shared between solidarity and solitude
We all want to feel one with the stage and the crowd at concerts, and that's one of the main reasons why fans choose to attend live concerts. I've already complimented the pretty stage set for "Love Me for a Reason" live at TV show in my old post, and what I've come across in search of Boyzone immersive experience is also the one from the song. The lighting effect is alluring, blue flame or flower, whatever that is ,circulating behind, is enticing. (On a sidenote, wouldn't love flame as blue can be more romantic than red? I believe blue flame can actually be hotter than red...!). Before you play this though, may I remind you that you are watching the stage, not Steo, who looks more ready to go to bed than to sing, and sounds like he is talking over the phone. But hey, this phenomenon is no stranger to a guy who is a Man of Peace and Knight Commander, as you will witness in a video after this. So no worry, just enjoy the light reaching and wrapping you!

What has been done with today’s technology to increase the level of experience? By searching YT I soon found a U2 live concert video. With the concert title name search, I saw videos lined up like newborn babies, which were delivered just a few days to weeks ago. Never knew Shere, a colossal orb, which someone calls a gigantic meteorite crashed into the earth, hosts immersive shows and opened this fall in Las Vegas, with the Irish rock band being the very first to celebrate its birth. Here, I'm posting "With or Without You" video.
| ... So am I the only one who thinks Bono in this official video looks like a guy from the movie Gladiator? His guitar is like a sword, and he has this aura of a lone fighter. And in this live video, Bono barely sings, which triggered some fans' dismay. Hey, he just wanted you to pay more attention to the world, you know? |

As a teen, I wasn't attracted to this song, thought it was just another guy screaming for love. It never occurred to me that this song had much to do with your inner strength; not strength given but within. How can a song singing about powerlessness be felt so strong ? I am now also impressed by the degree of urgency conveyed when facing life in this song. The zen words 生死事大(Shoji(=life and death) Jidai(=a pressing issue)) has popped up in my head. To be serious about life is not about avoiding death, and in order to die, you need to live, for life and death are equally important for us human beings. It's this acuteness that you need to embrace as a self, not life and death as events. Yes, life indeed could be felt like a sword, and death as a shield if you truly live, not vise versa. That's what I get from this song now.
So, shall we conclude that by erasing ourselves we can see and feel light both inside and outside and that's how you live "in" your life and that desperation can be the very sign of hopes?
Our desires burn so brightly that they blind our eyes...by going back to "the basics, origins,"; having nothing, by being nobody, (Also said in Zen Word 本来無一物(Honrai(=originally) Mu-Ichimotsu(=have nothing)): Everything is nothing, for life (truth) is interconnected and inseparable ) we are closer to the truth, and become life itself. That's the essence of immersive experience, IMO. We all should be able to free ourselves in life. Cheers!
My hands are tied, my body bruised
She got me with nothing to win
And nothing left to lose
And you give yourself away
And you give yourself away
And you give, and you give
And you give yourself away
With or without you
With or without you, ohh
I can't live with or without you...
